Aðalsteinn E. Jónasson, supreme court attorney and  Associate professor at the RU School of Law since its foundation. He qualified as a supreme court attorney in 1998, studied international securities market and financial services law at Harvard University during the academic year 1999-2000 and graduated from there in June 2000 with an LL.M. degree. Mr Jonasson was employed as the director and later managing director of the legal department of Íslandsbanki from May 2000 to April 2002. From 2002 to 2004 Mr Jonasson was a partner in LEX legal services, 2004-2006 he was  General Counsel for Straumur Investment Bank, 2004-2006 Managing Director of the legal deparment of Gnupur Investment Company hf. and since 2007 Associate Professor of RU, School of Law.

        Board Members:


Ólafur B. Thors graduated with a degree in law from the University of Iceland in 1963. That same year he was employed by the insurance company Almennar tryggingar and held the position of company director from 1976-1989. He was director of Almennar líftryggingar (life insurance) 1981-1991 and managing director of Sjóvá-Almennar tryggingar hf. (insurance company) from 1989-2002. Mr Thors has been entrusted with representing the Independence Party as well as the City of Reykjavík on various committees and councils. He has also been a board member for a range of businesses and institutions. Mr Thors was consul general to Japan from 1982-2002.

             

Þórður S. Gunnarsson, supreme court attorney, is Dean of the RU School of Law. He has worked as a lawyer since 1980, his latest position being partner of Lögmenn Höfðabakka sf. legal services. Mr Gunnarsson was also the managing director of Árnson & Co. patents and tradmarks office.

Þórólfur Jónsson, district court attorney, has been a part-time lecturer at the RU School of Law since 2002. He was assistant to the supreme court judges in 2002 and that same year he graduated with an LL.M. degree from Harvard Law School. From 1999-2001 Mr Jónsson worked for Logos legal services and also from 2002-2004. Since 2004, Mr Jónsson has been employed as a lawyer in the corporate banking division of Kaupthing Bank. As well as working as a lawyer, Mr Jónsson was a part-time lecturer at the law faculty, University of Iceland, from 1999-2001.

Advisory Council:

The Board of the Institute for Financial Services Law has the authority to appoint an advisory council for the Institute. The Advisory Council shall be comprised of such a number of individuals as the Board deems to be necessary at any given time to assist in its policy formulation and choice of projects. The Board shall appoint a chairman for the Council who is to be in charge of liaising between the Board and the Council. The role of the Council is to provide expert advice concerning policy formulation for the Institute and its research projects.
